In 2009 the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) celebrates its 60th birthday. Referring to the defensive role of the NATO after World War II and the need for a new clear strategic doctrine of the organization in this new era, BBC journalist Paul Reynolds wrote that “Nato has a strong past but a less clear future”.
In an attempt to reveal NATO’s future, Vlerick Alumni invited one of its leading voices: Vice Admiral William D. Sullivan, United States Military Representative of the NATO. He will provide his views on the evolving challenges facing NATO in the 21st Century and the changes NATO must undertake to meet those challenges. Admiral Sullivan will be challenged by professor dr. Sven Biscop, one of Belgium’s most renowned defense specialists. Programme 7:00 pm: Welcome 7:30 pm: Introduction by professor dr.
